1 Kings 19:1-13

Questions to consider:

  1. Read 1 Kings 19:1-18. What stands out to you? What questions do you have?
  2. Elijah’s collapse came immediately after the victory on Mount Carmel. Why can exhaustion, fear, or discouragement become especially intense after a demanding or significant season? How have you experienced this?
  3. Before addressing Elijah’s thinking or returning him to his calling, God gave him sleep, food, water, and a gentle touch. What does this reveal about God’s care for us? Where might you need to receive rather than resist your God-given limits?
  4. Elijah’s pain was real, but it had become the only lens through which he could see. What is the difference between honestly bringing our feelings to God and allowing our feelings to become conclusions about God, ourselves, or the future?
  5. Elijah returned to Horeb expecting an encounter like Moses experienced, but God did not repeat Sinai or Mount Carmel. Are you trying to recreate a past experience of God? What might prevent you from recognizing Him in a different or quieter way?
  6. God did not answer all Elijah’s questions. He gave him care, corrected his perspective, reminded him that he was not alone, and showed him the next faithful step. What is the next faithful thing God may be asking of you right now?
  7. Jesus repeatedly says in Revelation, “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” What noise—external or internal—makes listening difficult for you? What practical space for silence and attentiveness could you create this week?
