Questions to Consider:

  1. Read Genesis 28:10-22. What strikes you about this story? What stands out about Jacob?
  2. Jacob encounters God while running from the consequences of his choices. What does God’s decision to meet Jacob before he’s changed reveal about grace and spiritual transformation?
  3. Jacob had spent his life grasping for blessing, but at Bethel God freely gives him presence, promise, and grace. Where are you tempted to secure through control, effort, or manipulation what can ultimately only be received from God?
  4. Jacob says, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Can you remember a season when you recognized God’s presence only afterward? What helped you see it differently?
  5. In John 1:51, Jesus describes Himself using the imagery of Jacob’s stairway. What does it mean that Jesus—not a location, feeling, or spiritual technique—is the meeting place between God and humanity? Choose one ordinary place you enter regularly. What simple reminder or prayer could help you pause there this week and ask, “God, help me notice You here and show me the next faithful thing?"
