Questions To Consider:

  1. What word, image, or idea from Revelation 2:12–17 stood out to you most? Why?
  2. Jesus tells the church, “I know where you live.” What pressures or expectations make following Jesus difficult in the particular places where we live, work, and build relationships? How does it change things to know that Jesus sees those pressures?
  3. Pergamum resisted opposition from outside the church but tolerated compromise within it. Why can gradual compromise be harder to recognize than direct opposition?
  4. What is the difference between receiving Jesus as Saviour and submitting to him as Lord? Why are we sometimes willing to trust Jesus with eternity but reluctant to trust him with everyday life?
  5. How can we recognize the difference between loving and serving people who do not follow Jesus and participating in something that compromises our allegiance to him? What questions might help us discern that boundary?
  6. Money, success, political power, approval, and comfort can all promise security or belonging. Which of these “lesser tables” seems most powerful in our culture? What do they promise, and what do they eventually ask from us?
  7. Jesus promises hidden manna, a white stone, and a new name. How do the nourishment, welcome, and identity Jesus gives help us remain faithful when obedience threatens our comfort, reputation, opportunities, or relationships?
